This week, the messiah of metal has risen and joined the Rascals for 3 hours of power! Youtuber, podcaster and musician Jason, aka MetalJesusRocks, joins us to discuss a wide range of topics. Our sermon includes Kickstarter, violence in the media, cats, games and a conversation-rich discussion on music. If this is the only Rad Rascals episode you listen to...shame on you, but Jesus forgives :)

Here is the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3wgQEeYeQU8&feature=g-u-u

The iTunes and MP3 links will be posted in the description box.

Question of the Week:

What is your opinion on video media (games, movies, music, etc) being blamed for people committing criminal acts? Do you feel that the media have some accountability?

Really awesome to listen to MetalJesus on Radical Rascals!

QOTW: It's ridiculous, anything could affect a person such as movies which i feel is most likely...people should not forget that most of these cases involve psychological disordered people and that's the only reason stuff like this happens.

Gaming isn't a good excuse for bad shit to happen. TV is most of the time much worse than what games allow especially as far as sexual criminality...a rape scene in games isn't really allowed whilst on TV and Movies you see it and you confirm this by when they showed a bit of it in the Tomb Raider Trailer...people went crazy over that!

As long as violent videogames rake in the big bucks they are safe from being outlawed as our governments care more about corporations than the little people.

Talking of The Libertines browland have you heard The Rakes they came from the same "trendy wanker" London scene as The Libertines.

they also did a pretty good song about the after effects of the London Tube Bombings

A bit interesting that this topic came up, as I wrote a paper relating to this exact discussion as my final research paper this past spring. The professor actually was very impressed with my supporting evidence and stance on the subject, but if any of you guys are interested in a long read, give this a look.

Now I have played violent games since I was 12, GTA on the PS1 was my first M rated game I'm an avid Call of Duty Player and the scene in MW2 in the Airport was nuts, like holy shit your in this massacre watching and in my case participating in gunning down many innocent people, but I have never wanted to go out car jack someone at gun point then speeding 90 miles down city streets running from the cops, then end up in a shoot out with the cops. The whole Violence in the Media thing is basically people needing to blame a shooting or other criminal act on Video Games, Movies or Music, Jack Thompson (who I want to bash in the face with a brick shaped object made of brick, wrapped in barbed wire) is notorious for his crusade against Video Games, making ludacris claims that FPS games are Murder Simulators, and don't believe Games are an art from at all. Instead of looking for a solution, they pass the blame on an easy target. He is a absolute disgusting, vile bastard, he is on the level of Fred Phelps to me (who is the raging homophobic bigot of the Westboro Baptist Church who protests Militarily Funerals, they are banned from entering the UK, they hate Canada, and are just absolutely retarded, hateful vile human beings) Violent Video Games causing violent acts, is the same logic as Guns kill people and misspelled words are the pencils fault

Anyway I do have an interesting question for you guys, if you have played Final Fanatsy 10 (which I sunk 115 hours into) did anyone have an attraction to Rikku, who is 15 in the game and 17 in FF X-2? Honestly I did, I was 14 when I started playing the game, well just another example of the differences between Japan and the Western world.

Andy I have to say, I feel bad that your without meat in your mouth because of Anderson beating Chael. Chael would have won that if he didn't try the spinning back fist, I have a buddy who is a wrestler at Oregon State who trained with him. He even got me a shirt signed by Chael, oh and its Pegasus one eight seven

LOL at the Cooking with Semen people also bought part

BTW Browland, I agree with buying an island for Beliebers then pulling an MW2 and nuking the damn thing, we just need someone with an assault rifle and get 25 kills in a row without dying lol. I have blocked and reported many Beiber Spam bots for tweets like "Hey Belieber get Justin Bieber to follow you" Or "Hey follow (insert Beliebers Twitter name)" It was ridiculous, I even blocked Justin Bieber Herself because I got sick of seeing her get retweeted, I follow alot of mt real life friends and it's usually them Retweeting Bieber. Too bad no one can block Bieber Trending topics, along with Jonas Brothers, Lady Gaga One Direction etc. because that comes up all the time, not kidding.

This is whats wrong with Beliebers

Anyway sorry about the Essay response, I've been adding to it as I have been listening so I broke it up to make it a bit easier for Browland and his show notes and the WBC thing I had to throw in there because no one brings my piss to a boil like Thompson and Phelps

Just wanted to make an amendment to my earlier comments on this episode of the podcast.

As part of the kneejerk reaction from the media, they drew a link between Seung-Hui Cho and the film: Oldboy. Going as far as to print that he was obsessed with this movie. I was lead to believe this was the case, and as it turned out, it was likely Seung-Hui never even watched it. So, I was wrong. Sorry :)

I actually quite like The Rakes and it's a shame that they broke up a few years back. I still own and listen to their albums.

I would recommend picking up The Dandy Warhol's best CD: Thirteen Tales from Urban Bohemia. It's great from beginning to end!

It gets me so mad when people blame video games for these criminal acts. I own multiple guns and play Call of Duty. That doesn't mean I want to shoot people. I think some people blame guns because they don't own one, and if they don't own one, they want to take them away from others. Drunk driving is the #1 cause of death among teens, so why don't others want to ban cars? It's because they own one.

Over an hour in and loving it thus far! Making Jason laugh with my semen question from episode 10 is one to add to the CV or resume! :)

In response to the QOTW, I hate whenever criminal acts occur and the blame is put upon something like a movie or a video game! There are billions of people on this planet and millions play video games, watch movies, listen to music etc and they do not get affected whatsoever! But whenever a murder or a crime occurs, it is always some form of media to be blamed a majority of the time and the fact is, the culprit could have had a mental illness, a rough upbringing and various other factors that could have made him/her do these things! I play a lot of violent games and the last thing on my mind would be to go and commit murder or something in the style of GTA or God of War etc!

It's the same BS as the hot coffee scenario with San Andreas back in 2005 & the Fox drama fiasco with Mass Effect's supposed full sex scene several years ago! Some of these stupid things make people think video media (especially video games) is the Antichrist!

The media should really be concerned with gun control. Here in the land down under, we had a massacre at Port Arthur, Tasmania in 1996. 23 people were injured and 35 people were killed. The media didn't blame anything to do with it on TV and video games, they blamed Australia's then-leanent gun laws. Prime Minister Howard implemented laws that made getting a gun in a city or built-up area difficult and things have been much better. Now the media can't blame the law, so they need to turn to something else, like the murder's personal entertainment choices. Which is all bullshit. If a man who shot up a bunch of guys watched "friends" every day of his life, then "friends" was not what made him murder people. He was clearly already insane. Cause "Friends" suck.

Hey guys, totally didnt get to listen to last episode in time to answer the question so im gonna answer that here too. :P

What is your opinion of Kickstarter and other sites like it? Is it a good way to seek funding, or is it e-begging? Also, are there any Kickstarter projects you have backed or think are interesting and worthy of a mention? Let us know!

I dont see it as e-begging at all, if your going to recieve something in return for your contribution then its not begging at all. For gaming, kickstarter is a fantastic way of gathering funds to create games for very niche markets. Publishers arent interested unless they think they will recieve a hefty payback for thier initial investment, so cutting out that middleman is the natural step in my opinion. All too often we have seen games rushed out or changed due to publisher pressure and demands. Why not let the common gamer decide wether a game is worth funding or not?

What is your opinion on video media (games, movies, music, etc) being blamed for people committing criminal acts? Do you feel that the media have some accountability?

The topic has been raging for years and my opinion is exactly the same as it was when i was a child, its not responsible for any criminal acts. Factual documentaries shown in schools, television, graphic novels and many books (including the Bible) have all depicted far more violence and atrocities than videogames ever have. I know we dont want to bring ethnic beliefs into this, but far more people have been harmed in the name of religion than have ever been harmed by some psycho thats into the odd movie or videogame. :/

@Metal Jesus, always glad to hear you talking about the old PC titles...phantasmagoria always seems to worm its way in there haha. Got my old discs working via DosBox so playing through it now, some of the acting is just priceless. I'd like to do a vid myself about the game but i think you would do a far better job and have more to say about it. Have you considered doing one in the future?

Again, thanks for another class episode guys. ;)

Loved all of the music talk in this episode.

As for guns, i think that everyone should have one because everyone would be polite to each other if every one was carrying.

Question of the Week:
I think that the people that blame media for people doing stupid this is fucking bullshit. The content om the internet is 1000 times worse than games/movies. As for kids who play mature rated games, you need to blame the parents for buying their kids games that they should not be playing anyways. So the main thing is that you can not blame the media for what some dipshits are just bad people.

Violent games, movies, music, etc are just scapegoats to try and provide answers for something we can't predict. It's no one's fault but the psychopath who killed those people. Our media in the US is a joke, and they just make up headlines to be alarmist douchebags to get attention, and play the blame game. I'm tired of politicians trying to take away my rights as a citizen just because some people do crazy things. The 2nd amendment states I'm allowed to own firearms and I want it to stay that way. There are millions of people who own guns in the US like myself who are responsible with them and don't do these kinds of things.

Good episode though guys. MetalJesus was a great guest!
