Hey guys I know there are a shit ton of music threads in this forum but I'm more interested in what the rad rascals viewers are in to. Post a few groups that were not discussed on the Podcast as well as bands you think people should know about. The Fall of Troy: First heard these guys as they were coming up in the industry. Prog rock at its finest! Headlined by lead guitar/vocalist Thomas Erak, The Fall of Troy is known for their absolutely incredible guitar solos and shrieking vocals by Thomas. Alternative Press magazine listed Erak as their Guitarist of the Year for 2007. I have driven hundreds of miles to watch these guys play and they have never disappointed. Favorite album by far is Doppelganger. Queens of the Stone Age: Been listening to these guys since I was in Junior High School! This is what new rock should strive to become! Headliner Josh Homme is the life and blood of QotSA having been its founder in 1996. I have only been able to see these guys once which is really quite disappointing Favorite album has got to be Songs for the Deaf. Oh also check out Homme's side project Eagles of Death Metal. QotSA feel but with a much harder drug influence. The Mars Volta: I know I posted about these guys before but good god guys if you have not listened to these guys, close your browser, drive to a music store, buy at least their first 4 albums and listen to them immediately! Favorite album has got to be Amputechture. 8 songs lasting nearly an hour and twenty minutes. Absolute beauty to my earholes. Tera Melos: This is the group that I doubt any of you have ever even heard of before. I first saw them in 2007 as an opening act for The Fall of Troy. The guys were not even signed at the time and were only able to open due to the fact that Nick Reinhart (lead singer and guitar player for Tera Melos) was Thomas Erak's personal guitar tuner/audio tech before shows. Tera Melos is some of the wildest Math Rock out there these days, with the band being known for their constantly changing time signatures and epic guitar solos. Many of you guys may find their early work to only be "noise" but you have to look past the noise and see just how many pieces are actually being put together during each song. Their latest album Patagonian Rats was met with critical acclaim by most and can only be described as a more grown up version of the old Tera Melos. I absolutely love the 50's surf rock/pop feel you get when listening! Thats just a few that I really love! You guys got any out there? |

These are excellent recommendations. I've been into Queens of the Stone Age, Marsa Volta and Mindless Self Indulgence for a while now, but bands like Vendetta Red, Tera Melos and Fall of Troy I am unfamiliar with. Methinks I should be correcting this. I'll hit you guys with some recommendations a little later. Music is defiitely my language

You must definitely check out Vendetta Red...they are no longer together, but I was lucky enough to see them at Warped Tour a while ago before they split, and was absolutely amazed. |

This is the song that originally brought Swedish electronic music to my attention a few years ago. I originally heard it on last.fm, and immediately hunted it down online. It brought me to The Knife. Which brought me to Zeigeist (which I feel gets unfairly compared to The Knife; they were a brilliant group in their own right). Then one of my Ukrainian friends brough DakhaBrakha to my attention; I freaking LOVE this group! I ended up buying all three of their albums xD |

@thewhitepenny - I just listened to some songs from Fall of Troy and the prog rock roots are immediately evident. Their music actually sounds quite a bit like The Mars Volta, so I see the connection there and I quite like it. The vocals take some getting used to, but it suits the music perfectly. As for drum & bass, I was huge into that back in the 90's and I still listen to it every so often. It's wonderfully ambient music for sure. @xTatSplatx - Just checked out Vendetta Red. I have actually heard them before and the song Shatterday immediately stood out. Not bad at all ![]() @NostalgiaKing - I adore Royksopp and The Knife, and thanks to you, Zeitgeist is another one I'm big into at the moment. Good stuff, man ![]() |

Yeah unfortunately Thomas Erak took some time to actually learn how to sing. By the time you get to their last album before the band broke up the music is a lot softer/slower with way more impressive vocals. Not really the shrieks you heard before but a more stable pitch. His guitar skills are something to behold though man.... If anyone got to see the guy live you know what I mean. Here's an example. At the first show I ever saw them at the venue was quite small and had these rafters on the ceiling that could be grabbed from the stage. Erak goes in to one of his many face melting solos (which are 100% spot on to what you hear on the CD), stops for a second and grabs the rafters over his head and begins to proceed forward over the crowed like a kid on monkey bars. He lifts his feet over the bars hanging over the crowed and then proceeds to finish the rest of his solo before letting go with his feet and crowd surfing back to the stage! It was incredible!!!!! |

This is becoming one of my favorite Tera Melos songs. Also, been on a bit of a instrumental rock kick lately so here is some Mogwai. A lot more well known than most but this song is just beautiful. |

I had a couple of friends really into The Used, and a couple of their songs really stook out. Especially Taste of ink. AFI, I really like Sing the Sorrow and Black Sales in the Sunset, probably one of the earlier bands I got into as a kid. I remember this album in general used to make me cry, The Get Up Kids are so moving.
Check anything with Garm on vocals, the songs with Vortex are interesting too, the band overall has a very interesting feel. But if you had to go with one album, it would have to be Sham Mirrors. Vortex got the band back together after dispute with Dimmu Borgir, so we'll be seeing him release an album with Arcturus in the near future. |

I'd completely forgotten about Arcturus, they were a HUUUUUGE part of my teenage years. The Sham Mirrors is an outstanding album, from start to finish. Amazing recommendation dude! |
