Would a capture card be the best way? Or else do people do it?

Yes, capture cards are the best in recording high quality audio and video.

Doesn't take much to invest. $30 or $40 should get you one that records some decent footage.

well, lets be honest, you can either get a capture card or you can use emulators and cam studio

I've had mixed results with the Hauppauge HD PVR, which is in essence a stand-alone capture card. Great for new-ish systems (PS2 era and up), but pretty lousy at recording anything much older.

Anyone have any experience with a Dazzle? That might be another good way to go for the retro consoles.

I don't have a capture card, so I also just point the camera at the screen for current gen systems. For the classic systems I play an emulator and use screen capture software (ScreenFlow in my case), it gives me the best picture possible.

Yeah, but I've seen your videos--your camera is bad-ass, so you get an automatic pass there.

Anyone using a cheap camcorder--don't do this. Trust me. (I was guilty of it at one point too) :P
