So I went to play the N64 today and it took about 6 tries to get it to work. The 5th time it worked but the game didn't start up. The 6th time is when it finally worked. So is my N64 dying, and should I get a new one? If you guys could help it would be greatly appreciated. |

Whenever I try to turn the N64 on it won't turn on until say the 6th time I try to turn it on. It's really frustrating and I'm not sure if I need to fix it or buy a new one entirely. |

Well i'm no expert on N64's, but my original one started doing this and died soon after. This may not the case with yours however, I am not entirely sure. :/ |

I mean, sometimes it takes my N64 a few tries to get it started. I just blow on the cartridge and blow on the connectors and it usually works. If it still doesn't work after that, I usually put rubbing alcohol on a Q-Tip and swab the cart and the connectors. If it still doesn't work and its annoying you that much, I would just drop like $10-$15 bucks on a system only N64. |

You may want to do a little research to see if there's a fuse somewhere in the N64. I do know the SNES had a fuse. So if it does have one it could be partially blown. meaning it's only getting a connection half the time. Or it may be the power adapter. My SNES did what it sounds like yours was doing. it was the power adapter that was causing it. is the light coming on when you power it on?? |

Are you always trying the same game? Because it sounds like a some corroded connectors to me. Like andytemple64 suggested, try doing a little cleaning and see if that helps. Worst case scenario, a new N64 won't set you back too much. |
