Awesome, just in time for a little trip I'm about to take. Can't wait to hear more about Dark Souls. I'm finding it very, very good, but also punishing beyond my expectations!

I know the days of getting that awesome rare break in FFXI.

Me and my linkshell got together and did some BCNM's after they made the peacock charm a BCNM only drop and did 3 rounds. We won all 3 rounds and got a peacock charm 2/3 times. They were worth about 18,000,000gil each so it was an even 12mil per person. Needless to say, it was an epic moment.

I was surprised to hear one of my questions asked from a long time ago towards the end of the episode. Pete, I thought you were a FF9 fan! Dagger/Garnet's real name is revealed at the Eidelon Wall in Madien Sari by walking around the wall in particular rotations. Yeah, im a fan.

PeteDorr,

This is from someone who put 1000+ hours in Demon's Souls, to put that in perspective I have 7000 sessions in Demon's Souls. And although the Japanese players are committed, there are NA/EU/etc players who are just as committed, who are just as good at PvP. It's not about the armor, rather it's how you evade attacks, and how you respond (or can respond) to the infamous lagstab (backstab).

I facepalmed really hard dude, NA is pretty notorious for it's amazing PvP players. The Japanese aren't the best by any means. They had a head start, but it wasn't by much. And no special armor in Dark can replace PvP meta skill.

Also, most veterans find the fog ring to be a farse. I've never had a problem against someone who wore a fog ring. and I didn't have any problems against a Soul Level 400 person who goes against my SL 125. Dark Souls has diminishing returns at higher SL, because once you hit 40 STR, you're not going to get much gains. That's why there are so many efficient low level builds. You could be SL 700 and easily lose to a SL 125 PvP veteran who carefully distributed his stats.

Jason, get on those Lord of the Rings. I'll recommend the first all day long, but I'm not a fan of the later 2.

Being a music man, the fact Led Zeppelin were big LotR fans and wrote several songs based on the material should entice you.

Also, we need a Halloween Horse Head sequel.

Really you need to look at this game the right way. You are either going to be in a zone of grinding souls or in a zone of trying to progress through the game. If you are trying to progress through the game, don't get so concerned as much with how many souls you have. If you die, you learn your lesson and try to get farther through the game. The game is fun and you shouldn't miss it.

Haha. I'm the one who was discussing the whole "Metroidvania" thing after the one episode. Like I said, I don't have a problem with the term, itself; I have a problem with how it's used. At least you said "Metroidvania-style" once or twice in this episode, so it wasn't quite as painful for me to listen to. :P

By the way, I was a bit disappointed that Jason's random trivia was actually based around real trivia this time around. Whenever he played the intro sound effect, I immediately laughed, because I was expecting something every bit as ridiculous as the question about Robert De Niro's age. Alas, it was not to be.

good deal man! I have had two girls do that to me in the past and as Johnny said in the episode, that is the best possible thing to do. It may suck for a while but always remember how shitty it felt every time she called before you talked to her about it.

Also, Jumble. The reason I got into Demon's Souls was because I was one of those PSO fanboys. Dark Souls has that psuedo-rogue-like element of if you die, you lose your currency. In PSO, the difference was if you died, you lost your meseta/equip. And the gameplay of Demon's/Dark is so similar to PSO, it feels like a Jrpg in real-time. And despite there being a PSO2 in the making, we all know Sega wont go back to that gameplay mechanic. They've only further developed, modified the original PSU/PSP model for PSO2.

What I'm saying is if you found Demon's Souls inaccessibly hard, just keep trying. Because once you get past that steep learning curve, the online portion of the game becomes ridiculously fun and addicting. It's one of the most innovative online games this generation, you're really doing yourself a disservice if you don't get into it.

Anyone who loved PSO will love this series. I can't stress that enough. It's just a matter of getting past the learning curve.

And I still stand by what I said regarding why I bought it on 360. People who invested thousands of hours and kicked ass at PvP in DS are obviously going to buy DkS on PS3. I was not one of those people who played DS for 1000's of hours, hence I would prefer to play with the newbies who wont kick my ass at every turn because they simply know the game mechanics like no tomorrow.

All I have to say is...

USA! USA! USA! XD

That is true, for someone who isn't invested into Dark Souls. The Vets might really destroy the fun of the game.

I had a similar problem with SFIV, which eventually I RQ'd due to how advanced the online players were.

The online lobby/ping thing is a step back from Demon's Souls' national server. The DS community is hoping they'll address that with the upcoming patch.

All you had to say was PSO and you sucked me in ;)

I will probably get this game soon, since a bazillion ppl keep telling me to get it! I got a backlog right now I need to catch up on first.

Boy I miss the days of getting my meseta and weapon stolen when I died! LOL

Don't let the advanced players scare you in SF4. Play Ranked matches. SSF4 or SSF4AE does pretty well for the most part with pairing you with people in your same Player Point range. Marvel vs Capcom 3 on the other hand does not!! :(

HCG mentioned that the Neo Geo collection on PS2 had amazing emulation. I just about fell out of my chair in shock. :) The emulation in that collection is god awful. It's a complete shame to see how SNK had treated the Neo Geo catalog. It can be a fun diversion for an hour or two if you find it in a bargain bin for $5 new, but beyond that avoid that game.

The Neo Geo emulator on PSN is infinitely better, but unfortunately is priced a bit too high.

Since I was a FOrce most often, whenever I lost my meseta, I would say "Damnit, there goes my trifluid snuffin' change." /facepalm

I'll expand upon the losing thing for you or anyone else who might be curious. Since I know there are a handful of PSO fans here who otherwise would never think of playing Demon's/Dark. (*ahem* MrTechnoSqueek)

The proper distinction is whenever you died in PSO, you had to make a long trek back if you didn't leave a telepipe (d'oh!) If you die in Dark Souls, enemies respawn, and you have one chance to reclaim your experience/currency (altogether known as souls). In PSO, as I recall your weapon will always be sitting there until you save/quit. And you can always deposit meseta in the bank, and you never lose experience you've already gained. So PSO is on training wheels compared to Dark in that respect. But they're both rogue-like inspired in this sense, despite not being faithful to a tee.

The problem was, I was never a fighting fan. I played SFII on the SNES/Arcade back in the day, but my main draw to the game was play SFII on a fight stick. Kind like how I don't really care for House of the Dead, but when you add the gun/keyboard, the experience is marginally enhanced. Or maybe that's just me. lol

I currently do play SFIV, but I stick to playing it at an arcade with friends. It's preferable that way. Now that you mention the ranked matches, if I ever run into a decent fight stick at a local store. I'll likely revisit SFIV, I also had plans to purchase MK when right after I bought the fight stick.

I have all the PS 2 SNK collections and a Neo Geo home system. I have to say that outside of Mame, this is as good as it can get for the average guy who wants to play SNK games (great value). I'm glad you pointed out that these aren't exactly perfect.

Example: No opening voice naration for Samurai Spirits and Art of Fighting....what happenned to the Emotion Engine? The refresh rate is not quite there on some games; but overall I think these are the best "ports" that have come along over the years.
