I've been on a Starblazers/Yamato kick lately, so I thought I'd make this post. Human Entertainment released a Yamato game back in 1992 for the PC Engine! You get to play through ten scenarios taken straight from the show, including the asteroid belt and the drill missile, in semi-realtime. Although in Japanese, if you are familiar with the show you can figure things out. Right at the end, though, knowing the kanji for the cardinal directions comes in handy, as you must navigate the acid sea. The game is simple in comparison to the PSX one, but I think this makes it more accessible and fun. Give it a try!

Remember! Japanese CD games do not require an adapter to play on American systems, only HuCards do.

Also, if anyone is interested in the Macross games for the PCE, I can tell you all you need to know.

Space Cruiser Yamato was a great series. You don't get those big space opera animes anymore like Yamato and Macross. PC engine and Super CD was the place to be if you loved anime games back in the day! Of course, only in Japan!
