Attack the Block (Everyone should watch this one) This was an amazing movie. The british accent is extremely thick so sometimes it was hard to understand, however the movie was so good i had to watch it a 2nd time. The genre of this movie is scifi, comedy which you would think would not work, yet somehow does. Basically it's about a group of street teens in britain who find aliens are as the title puts it, attacking their block. The pacing is incredible, the characters are relatable and by the end of the movie you're whole perspective of them changes completely. The humour is incredible funny, and the lines are fast and well placed. There are moments that are extremely scary as well as brilliant action and chase scenes. This movie is extremely under hyped and deserves mentioning on this forum. Please watch it. |

I loved... absolutely LOVED the new Muppet Movie. You just don't see entertainment like that anymore. It doesn't patronize people by dumbing anything down for children or trying to hide "adult" humor in it, it just entertains, everybody. |

My favorite right now is probably No Country for Old Men. It speaks to me on so many levels. Labyrinth was another great along with The Dark Crystal. I wanted to comment on a couple of the previous posts as well: Caligula was a great movie, but it leaves me in a bad mindstate everytime I see it. Pan's Labyrinth was an amazing movie. I find foreign film more entertaining (British humor has always been a fav) because I find that the American film industry is so much fluff and no substance. And on the British humor note, I love Monty Python. Life of Bryan and Monty Python and the Holy Grail are two of my favorite movies of all time. The premise for both is ridiculous and these guys were true visionaries as evidenced by their appearances in movies today ... |

just watched zodiac and mulholland drive zodiac was extremely suspenseful and was well acted with good pacing mulholland drive has to have one of the most unexpected twists in the story. I found the beginning to be slightly boring. However the movie started to crescendo getting gradually more eccentric as the plot progressed. Don't drink before watching this movie. At first there are multiple plot lines that don't make any sense however in the end they somehow fit. The ending is very vague and is open to interpretation. My friends and I argued over the ending and how we perceived the movie. I would strongly recommend zodiac. Watch mulholland drive if you're up for it |

Just watched the movie Shaolin aka The New Shaolin Temple This movie is supposedly an updated version to Jet Li's The Shaolin Temple First i have to say that this movie should not be compared to Jet Li's Shaolin Temple Jet Li was in his prime during the movie. The protagonist of Shaolin is played by Andy Lau who is not a martial artist by trade but a famous actor and singer in China. The movie itself is not moved by the action sequences but instead driven by the narrative/plot of the story. The story is engaging and reminded me of the story of Ashoka the war prince in India who became a monk. The premise of the movie is excellent yet there are times where i felt like the movie was banging me over the head with concepts which i found was common sense and was too predictable. In my opinion the acting of the leads was nothing special however the movie truly shines with the supporting cast. Jackie Chan plays a supporting character in the movie instead of a lead role. Yet he brings a great deal of charm and realism into the movie. He is not a young as he once was yet can still kick but. I believe the movie would have done better if his parts were expanded a little. Jackie brought humour to movie, i wanted more lines and scenes with Jackie. That being said, this movie is meant to be engaging and you feel real emotions for the characters. This is an epic tale that with a plot that is simple and to the point. I actually enjoyed action sequences. No use of the overused CGI made the action sequences feel refreshing. Shaolin kung fu is not meant to be flashy but instead is a unification of the mind body and soul. I feel that this movie does a great job in emphasizing this fact without beating you over the head with it. The credits of this movie start at 2 hours and 5 min. Realistically this movie should have been around 1:30. There were scenes that didn't really need to be in the movie. But hey this is a martial arts movie from China. It is meant to be epic so some people may disagree. Overall this movie is a good watch however will not change your perception of kungfu movies. However i enjoyed Jackie's noodle fighting in the movie, that was what i called epic. |

Just watched mission impossible ghost protocol When i went to the movie I had low expectations Tom Cruise in my opinion has not made a good movie in years The director, Brad Bird, is known for movies like The Incredibles and Ratatouie. I expected this movie to flop, big time. However at the end of the movie i found myself grinning from ear to ear. This movie is everything an action/adventure/spy movie should be. The action sequences are excellent and the stunt sequences are gripping and get increasingly more exciting as time went by. This movie is huge and I recommend seeing it in theaters. There are problems with the movie. The plot keeps jumping all over the place. Why are they going to Dubai? Why are they going to Mumbai? In the end it didn't really matter because I didn't really care. Tom Cruise isn't the whole off camera crazy overlly happy guy who jumps on Oprah's couch. In my opinion Tom Cruise played Ethan Hunt perfectly and allowed the supporting cast to shine. Simon Pegg (Shawn of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, Paul, Tron) provides comic relief which I found refreshing. There were times that i found the humour to be forced but overall the humor played out well in the movie. At times this movie reminded me of the old James Bond movies. I highly recommend watching this movie. Enjoy |

My favorite movie is Back to the Future. I just think its a perfect mix of comedy, adventure, sc-fi,etc as well as having fantastic performances by Michael J Fox and Christopher Lloyd. Some of my other favorite movies are American Movie, which is a great documentary about an aspiring film making and has some hilarious moments. I also love Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and think it is one of the most creative movies I've ever seen visually as well as dialogue wise. One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest is also a classic and I loved Jack Nicholson in it and find it to be him at his best in this movie. Also thought I'd throw in what my favorite movie this year is, 50/50, great performances from Joseph Gordon Levitt as well as Seth Rogan. It was hilarious but managed to still handle the drama well with him getting cancer, just a fantastic movie. |

Curious what everyone's thoughts on Spirited Away are? For those that don't know, its a Hayao Miyazaki film, which are some of my favorites. |

Lately I've been watching Studio Ghibli's films for the first time. Nausicaa and Princess Monoke were amazing. Tales of EarthSea bored me somewhat though. I plan on watching the studio's entire library in the future |

Unfortunately just watched the "Horror Film" Cannibal. It was really hard to sit through and i didn't actually finish it (so i guess I didn't fully watch it) but someone told me to watch it and not read about it before doing so. Well I can't recommend not reading about what you are getting into if, for some reason, you decide you wanna watch it so here you go: http://thecinephilereview.blogspot.com/2008/12/story-of-armin-meiwes-and-bernd-jurgen.html I'd stay away from it as there isn't much to be gained. |

Yes, Cabin in the Woods was phenomenal. A prime example of why people shouldn't judge movies based on the trailer. Just when you think you're seeing a typical road trip gone bad kind of film, you'll find yourself on a roller coaster thrill ride. |
