I've just recently bought a PS1 and was wondering what are some good RPG games. I've owned most of the Final Fantasy games in the past but sold them and the asking price is a little high for me right now to buy them again. |

See: Suikoden II Best RPG ever. Also candidate for best game ever. Much better than the sissypants FF7 garbage. |

Failing that, Wild Arms was pretty nifty, should be fairly cheap. |

If you're into action adventure games with RPG elements, check out Mega Man Legends and Legends 2. They run from 25-60 bucks, but they are well worth it. Also, Brace Fencer Musashi is a pretty good action RPG. Also, Alundra is great...um...some others...there's just too many to list! |

Well, I know everybody loves to hate FF7, but I find that it's a very decent RPG. I know that everything that has more then 5 fans is considered "overrated", but FF7-9 will always be considered by me as some of the best RPGs ever made. Story lines are awesome and character development is very well done. And thank god there's no voice overs like most of those mega-expensive titles such as Valkyrie Profile. Not saying VP is necessarily bad, but if I pop a game in and here those terrible VO's, it just ruins the experience. Oh and Suikoden 2 is amazing. |

If you want some comedy I really recommend Thousand Arms...the combat is hit or miss depending on the person, but it's hysterical. There's always Grandia, Final Fantasy Tactics for the OCD purist, Star Ocean: Second Story, and of course Suikoden |

I would recommend Breath of Fire 3 and 4 or Tales of Destiny, however it could be a bit hard to find for a decent price.

... I have beaten both and they are great games. Don't leave out Suikoden 1 though. It is an equally good game. |

Suikoden II is my favorite game and that's become public knowledge. But like Richard said I would play the first game since a lot of characters cross over. Plus if you have a save file from the 1st game it unlocks content in 2nd game. Oh and if your looking for a great Action RPG you can't go wrong with Alundra (Not Alundra 2 .... avoid that big time). |

If you've never played it before. Try final fantasy tactics. Its my favorite FF game of all time and is completely different then the usual turn based RPG. Although I can't say this game is for everyone o_O

I don't understand why Alundra 2 gets so much hate... It might not have that more serious tone that the first one had, but I found it very enjoyable. Pretty hard though |

Chrono Cross is a wonderful RPG; it's still one of my favorite games of all time, and the soundtrack is a masterpiece! It can get a bit confusing if you're not paying attention to the story, especially with all of the side characters, but if you get it straight, it's amazing! |

I was at a family owned video rental place that has PS1 games for rent. I originally went in because I thought they sold vintage video games but I guess not. I found Silent Hill, Final Fantasy VII (x2), Final Fantasy Chronicles, Mega Man X, Suikoden, & Harvest Moon: Back to Nature. I asked them if I could buy them all for straight cash and they told me no! They were in a terrible location and they had zero business on a Saturday afternoon so I wouldn't be surprised if they go out of business sometime soon since the Blockbuster right down the street was having a closing sale. I'm definitely going to keep a close eye on this place. A lot of great titles and they do have a ton of n64 games with the boxes folded in great looking condition.

Geeze who rents old PS1 games now? Great thing about PS1 games is you can play them on your PS3 too. |

haha I know right. I couldn't believe it either. The lady told me that they rent out quite a few of them which I kind of found hard to believe since they didn't seem to have anyone renting movies. |

Some of the best rpgs i played when i owned my ps1 were Legend of Legaia: This was by far my favorite rpg for the ps1 and most people don't know it exsists. Lunar Silver Star Story Complete: This one another game that captured me and brought me in for quite awhile and the music was amazing. Legond of Dragoon: I really enjoyed the battle system in this because it was a bit different then others but some hated it for that very fact. Dragon Valor : This isn't full out rpg more hack and slash rpg but has alot of rpgish elements was a very fun game |

Chrono Cross is my favorite PS1 RPG, so don't miss it! Right now I am playing Xenogears, which is the precusor to the Xenosaga series on the PS2. if you like fighting robots in your RPG, it may be for you! |

That's not true, all PS3's can play PS1 games, it's PS2 games that will only play on some PS3's. |

My first and most obvious suggestion would usually be Final Fantasy VII, but as of lately, I think I would have to put Final Fantasy IX before it. I honestly hold it in higher regard than VII after I finally gave it a shot. I've made it about 50% through disc three and have sunken over 27 hours into it, and it is fantastic. The characters for one are really lovable in my opinion. The graphics are a bit childish, but I think that's what makes the game really unique and sets it apart from the others. The battle system is great, and so far, the story is unforgettable. I cannot wait to see the ending because I've heard that it's a tear-jerker ![]() Those would be my two suggestions, but for anyone who hasn't played either of the two, or have maybe played VII and enjoyed it, do yourself a HUGE favor, go to Amazon, and buy the game new (Greatest hits, though, so if that's an issue try ebay or Gametz), and experience one of the greatest RPG's of all time...in my opinion at least. You really can't go wrong with either game, though. They're both really great.
