We need more moderators

Welcome to the Forum for the awesome Gaming Community growing daily on YouTube. I think this will be a great place for us to get to know each other better outside of just commenting on videos and channels. This way we will all be able to share our ideas and opinions in some great discussions that I am sure will take place here over time.

I would reccomend using your Youtube name as your username just to avoid any confusion, but it's totaly up to you!

Fracking Cylon Posts: 1,008 Group: Members Member #980 Joined: Jul 10, 2009	Regarding the chat which seems to be a big discussion in a few threads here... Here is the problem with all of these chats. The only secure chats that have a truly robust moderating system are the ones that you have to register to be a part of. That is an extra step that turns off users at the first step. It's easier just to jump in a chat that doesn't require you to register. So you can either have a chat that gets used a lot but lets all the trolls in, or a chat without trolls that has no one to talk in. or you learn to ignore either the trolls or the fact that there is no one in the chat to talk to. This is why no chats have seemed to work for this site. Almost none of the moderators used the chat, but they were getting the messages from members when things went wrong in it. I don't think that any of the moderators want to stop anyone here from chatting, but at the same time they don't want to have the added responsibility of dealing with situations that they are not a part of and have little control over. I think its an awesome idea to have a chat for members here to be able to talk to each other. I think it's an even better idea to not have it linked to the forums in any way and to not bother the moderators here or Pete about it. This isn't really a full time job for anyone and all of these people have enough on their plates already. Edited by eSkilliam, Dec 30 2010, 11:29 PM.

Posts: 2,686 Group: Moderator Member #719 Joined: May 12, 2009	I would have gladly helped out with moderating the chat if I felt that it would have done any good, but the truth is that trolling is rampant and they always seem to find a way in. Sadly, it's just a couple of bitter people who were banned from PGRF and they look for any opportunity to weasel back in and cause trouble, which is what the chat provided to them. Added to which, I spend more than enough time on the forum as it is. It's funny how it's not a job, but I've taken to it like it was one and I have no qualms about dropping what I'm doing to deal with an issue or logging in at 3 am to stop a troll attack. Good thing my paying job is relatively cushy :p Anyway, if we could get an "Invite Only" or "By Approval Only" chat where mods can do more to keep trolls out, I would totally be on board with that and willing to help out wherever possible. But as eSkilliam said, keeping it independent from the forum and unassociated with it is probably best idea.

Not active for a couple of weeks is one thing, being inactive for months is something else. Obviously life commitments come first, but if you knew you werent going to be active as much as you need to be, then you need to know when to pass the torch.

That's why about a year ago I think I asked Pete to take away my moderator status, I felt I really couldn't keep up with things and didn't have enough time on the forum every day.

I would volunteer simply because I am on the forums throughout the day due to breaks in my life schedule that I have, but even if I didn't get the position what is important that somebody who is actively on does. One or two more moderators is needed at the most though. Browland is an excellent example of a moderator that does the work of many. He is on frequently, doesn't abuse his powers at all, is an active community member, and a respectable guy that almost everyone respects. There is just too many times I have been on when I wish there was a mod on to fix an issue on the forum and as others have said that indicates more moderation is needed. All up to Pete though, but it is a friendly suggestion.

As mods, we see when a post has been reported as it's displayed prominently at the top of our screens and we can handle it right away. Whenever you see something like that, report it to us instead of replying to it and we will take care of it. I've seen many instances where someone has spammed or posted a flame topic and people have only replied to it. If it's reported, we can deal with it right away. The one area of the forum that is tricky is the All Gen Gamer's sub-forum, since this draws the highest traffic of random users and some of the areas (especially the Love Talk Questions thread) attract some of the stupidest posts I've seen in this forum. Because of this, I've been making it a point to hang out more in this area and as such have banned a few undesireables. But yeah, use the report whenever you see someting objectionable and we'll take care of it right away. Even if new mods are added, we still need everyone's help in weeding out spammers and the like and using the report function is the best way to do that.
