One thing I always wish for in pokemon games, is the option to travel back to past regions, like in Gold/Silver/Crystal. I never understood why they haven't considered doing that again. It's the reason why Crystal remains my favorite Pokemon game.

I don't know; I don't think the Pokemon games really benefit from a major storyline. They've always been about collecting Pokemon. That was my biggest problem with Diamond/Pearl/Platinum; the heavy emphasis on the storyline really made me feel like I didn't need to play any more once I finished it. I mean, yeah, the Pokemon games have always had some form of story (Generation I had the whole Team Rocket thing, with Silph Co. getting taken over, which ended when Giovani "disbanded" it after being defeated), but a huge, epic, OMFG storyline really detracts from the core of what makes a Pokemon game (for me) a Pokemon game. I could be wrong, but it just isn't needed, even if it is an RPG.

I'm also not sure about a customizable ingame character, since in Generation I, for example, you're actually playing as Red. It would only really work if they changed it to where you had sort of a "fresh start" storyline, where you move to a new region, on your own: no friends, no house, no backstory; just you and your brandspankingnew starter Pokemon. It would be great to be able to put together your own character sprite for online interaction though, instead of only being able to choose from a random set of enemy trainer sprites.

One thing I feel they need to work on his making better looking Pokemon; get out of this bugcatching mindset, where, when they start creating a Pokemon, they think of a bug, and get back to, "What could be living in that bush behind the house?" or, "What kind of Pokemon might be burrowing under a tree in the woods?" or, "What could be living in the attic?" They seem to try to make each and every Pokemon stand out now, which ends up having each Pokemon looking more gaudy than the last. They need to make more fun but naturalistic looking creatures, like they were in (!!!) Generation I.

And stop tinkering with pre-existing Pokemon! Do you expect us to believe that suddenly, Pikachu evolves from some other, cuter looking Pokemon? It was kind of neat back in Generation II, but it just makes it to where they have to change the freaking Pokedex around.

Another thing they could do to give the games more replay value is do what Gold/Silver did and allow you to travel to different regions. I know it'd take longer to develope, but it'd be worth the wait if they did it right.

Nice find; it was pretty interesting to read! Let the flaming begin!

Most of the reasons already written and I would like more spin offs like Rumble .-. very simple game but very addicting.

I think pokemon needs a new fresh start..... something completely different from what they have originally done.... idk like maybe an Animal Crossing, free roaming style, combined with the gotta catch all the pokemon kinda aspect. Like maybe a game where you make your own town, like in Animal Crossing, where you have to pay mortgage on your house and stuff and put pokemon in it that you can catch and train...... Maybe they could add a gym battle sorta thing, but idk. Something different from catch pokemon, train them, beat all gym leaders, go to Elite Four, beat them, catch all pokemon, done. Something more interactive between the trainer and pokemon, that makes you truly feel these are your pokemon....

I agree. All the Johto/Kanto games are my favorite, but the awesome things they put in on those games are always taken out. Like being able to go to two regions didn't appear again until the game's remakes (unless you count FireRed/LeafGreen's islands). And then having your pokemon follow you and using the PokeWalker was fun in the remakes, but they took it out again for Black/White.

Rumble is super addictive, and it's sort of what I wanted from the pokemon games ever since they came out. But it's a little annoying you can't level.

The only reason I don't see the character customization happening is because the characters you can play are characters from the manga series, but I do agree it would be nice to have a custom character for online battles.
