XSEED has recently announced a deal with Nihon Falcom to port over many of their PSP Ys titles. The series itself is very scarce outside of Japan but has a large cult following.Ys Seven will be the first title that XSEED will publish(fall 2010) and the collector's edition is a huge throwback to the Working Designs collector editions of their day.Being a fan of YS since the Turbografx days it's great to see this series getting it's due. One of the best RPG franchises out there that never left Japan for the most part. Aslo XSEED will be bringing over Falcom's Legend of Heroes another RPG franchise that scarcely made it out of Japan over the years but also has a huge cult following. I think XSEED is turning into the modern day Working Designs...and I'm all for it. Edited by SplatterTrigger, Jun 5 2010, 07:31 PM.

Ds Games!

I'm still looking to get Y's on the ds as my introduction to the series, but XSEED has been doing great things. It's thanks to developers and publishers like them, level 5, atlus and Cing that there are still some unique games out there to play. This is some good news you found. |

You might want to hold off on the DS version. Part of XSEED's deal is to publish Ys Chronicles I&II which were the PSP versions. They were published in Japan after the DS (the DS had first development rights) titles were released. The graphics take a slight step up and there are more extras than the Ds versions. All in all these PSP titles are all ports from the Japanese PC versions. That's one of the reasons Falcom's series(Legend of Heroes and YS) have been scarce outside of Japan/Asia. Most of the titles were primarily released on the PC. And the music to these series is absolutely EPIC. |

I'll buy it anyway since I am always trying to expand my ds collection, but thanks for the heads up. Is there anything you can tell me about the DS's books 1 and 2 that are out now? |

Basically they are just ports of the PC(Jap) remakes. They originally appeared in the states on the TurboCD. As for the games themselves if your a fan of old school action RPG's then give them a try.Think Zelda with spells. They are not anything revolutionary. I highly recommend if you do buy them to get the box with the ST. The ST is very good. |

Yeah I cant wait for this, the special edition looks amazing! XSEED is quickly becoming one of my favorite publishers, they are becoming the next Atlus when it comes to bringing us quirky games from Japan! |

I have not played a single Ys game. This is probably the 100th time someone on youtube has mentioned this series and I am thinking that I should probably jump the wagon and join you guys. Splatter or Pete, which Ys game do you recommend I start with? |

If you live in North America The easiest one to find right now would be Ys I&II on the DS.It also came packaged with a ST.But by todays standards those ports are nothing new. I find them to be a nice upgrade from the TurboCD originals but they are nothing spectacular.I would highly suggest tracking down a copy of Ys the ARk of Napishtim. It was released on the PS2 and later on the PSP(in fact I believe it might be a downloadable title on PSN). |

I had Ys I & II for my tg16 and it was one of my favorite games of all time. Such an amazing soundtrack. I have yet to talk to someone who has played the Wii virual console version of Ys book I & II. Anyway I am also really looking forward to the upcoming release by XSeed |

I'm not a Ys buff, infact my first time playing Ys (besides Ys III on genesis years and years ago) was Ys book 1 and 2 on the virtual console thanks to me discovering the HCG and promptly DLing it after. |

Thanks all 3 of you. When I get the chance I will pick it up. I am getting my gaming channel set up right now and lots of summer school work/games to play so it may take some time. |

Man I hope those games don't get cancelled by the anti-2D/niche Nazis at SCEA because I am definitely looking forward all the PSP Ys games. They are the reason why Working Designs went out of business. |

As you will eventually find out I am absolutely obsessed with the Ys series. I was really sad that I can't enter the contest on facebook since I live in Australia. But that won't stop me from importing the limited edition I mean a cloth map ... a CLOTH MAP! lol This week is big for me Ys wise I ordered a few things from Ebay. First I just got the Ys Origin Vista version complete with artbook today. I have the Ys Seven Japanese Special Edition and Oath in Felghana psp This will be the second series I'll have Jap and English copies the first one being Suikoden. |

Nice. Suikoden is a great series. I own all the english releases, but have only played/beaten the first 2. I like to play one once every few months because the fact that they are so similar and deep that I don't want to get overwhelmed. |

Is your Ys Seven the regular edition, limited edition or the YS I&II Seven box set? Just wondering what the differences in the special editions were. I have the YS I&II Seven set only. I also have the PSP Felghana box set. I entered the contest when the page went up.I think it would be pretty awesome if I was one of the winners. Couldn't even imagine if I played a game and a character's name was SplatterTrigger!LOL! |

I just bought the YS Legacy 1+2 on the DS limited edition with soundtrack because of all you guys. This will be my first time playing a Ys game and it has some pretty mixed reviews, but hopefully it is good :). From what I read though I should make sure to up the difficulty cause it says it is easy. Do you guys agree? This is for the DS version lol I heard the original was brutal. If memory serves it was much easier. It's been a while since I played the originals on the TG16. Atlus gave a good deal too on the DS box set I think.Without paying an arm and a leg you can get the originals on Wiiware. |

Let everbody on a little secret. I just finished the entire Y's series on the Turbo the other day. You could not beleive the cliff hanger they had in the forth game. Why play any ports of the Y's when you can play online. Falcon has the Y's RPG up and runing. Seriously you can play with people online as Darkfact, Adol, or even a Dogi type character. Sorry I didn't answer sooner but my net is being a bitch. (Just got back on today). To answer your question my Ys Seven Special Edition only had the game and the Drama CD. I nearly got the Ys Chronicles/Ys Seven Box but I only got the one. Ys Seven is definately the best game on the PSP without question. I've stopped playing it because I want to experience the English version without spoiling the rest of the game. But for the first 10 hrs it was a blast. ![]() Most RPGs keep me playing just for the story, but there are very few games where I say "This is fun!!!" well Ys Seven is one of those games. However on a sad note amazon won't send the English Special Editon to Australia. So unless I find someone on Ebay who is taking orders I'll have to settle for the normal edition. |
