(I changed the name of the thread, because I made this when I first cameto this forum, and I didn't realize that most of the forum were people from the 1990s.)

Those were the days. N64 and PS1 were the prime competitors. Each with a rock solid library of games.

N64 was the better system though. I agree that the PS1 had a lot more games. But the N64 had a lot of more memorable games (not to say the PS1 didn't have any. I just feel the N64 had more.) This has become a big discussion. So I edited this thread a bit.

PS1 has thousands of titles. N64 has about 300. 300 isn't bad, but the PS1 had far more games. However, the N64 had a ton of games that are considered the greatest games of all-time. N64 had games that inspired a generation. PS1 had its fair share of memorable titles, but the N64 will always have that certain appeal, in my opinion.

Discuss what you guys think (no flames, keep it mature.) :n64: :psx:

I would have to agree, although many people can say the same for the SNES and Genesis days. But the 64 was altogether better, and had something that no other system ever has or had

I remember this. I grew up during this. I remember some of Sony's commercial back then. Man they have bizzare ads. haha

I loved the Playstation.

Crash Bandicoot and Spyro were my favorites back then. I have recentlly re-bought them all. Ahh...nostalgia.

But I have to go with the N64. The first 3D console to nail 3D gaming.

Thank you Nintendo. :)

I hope so...unless this forum is filled with 2 year olds. You have your head in the dirt if you think the n64 is better though.

I have a feeling that most people will disagree with you that N64 was the better system. Both were great systems in their own way though, but the PS1 had quite a few epic titles that kind of blew N64 out of the water.

Ps1 has some amazing titles such as Symphony of the Night, Final Fantasy VII.. Don't underrate it. It's an amazing system.

N64-
"A total of 387 games were released for the console though few were exclusively sold in Japan."
PS1
" in competition with around 1,100 games released for the rival PlayStation."

Ps1 you can tell had an up on the titles released, since it's lifespan was much longer.
But both have very stand out titles, more stand out then ps1 in my opinion.

I would personally go with the Ps1, since I got it in it's beginning, when I was like 2 :D.
64 In like 2002, when in was basically dead.

I grew up with Spryo, Tekken, and Crash for the Ps1.

N64 was my second ever game console (first one was a Colecovision, which my uncle had, and he gave me it when I was younger.)

I grew up with classics, such as Zelda, Pokemon Stadium, Mario, Diddy Kong Racing, and some epic star wars games.

And what is this lol? And you guys gotta be kidding me saying the N64 was better. Of course it was and still is a great console with some great games but overall I believe the PS1 takes the cake. Plus, Playstation had Spyro which means they should automatically win.

PS1 blew the n64 out of the water.
The n64 controller was just... so wired...
And (as with most nintendo games) the games were usually aimed at kiddies, with more emphasis on pretty atmosphere.

When I grew up with it, PSone had Tomba!, Oddworld, Einhander, Psychic Force 2, Doom, Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Metal Gear, Tekken, Alundra, Final Fantasy, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, Need For Speed, much much more...
N64 had Mario... and maybe Turok... lame =/

Don't get me wrong, I rented both on a regular basis, but the PSone just had wayyyy better games

I was in my late teens when the Playstation and N64 were competing for market domination. I remember both systems fondly and I think they both have an excellent library of games. It was really no different than SNES vs. Genesis, Atari vs. Coleco, etc. Every video game generation had heated competition and games had to make choices. But nowadays it's common for people to have more than one system - I know many people who have both a PS3 and an Xbox 360, whereas I knew nobody who had both an SNES and Genesis...unless they were spoiled by their parents. Times have definitely changed.

I loved the N64, but the Playstation is still my favorite of the two systems simply for the library of games and the quality of titles. I was (and still am) a big Square RPG fan and my allegiance went to Sony when Final Fantasy VII came out on the Playstation. Had things gone the other way, I probably would be singing the praises of Nintendo.

I have to be honest and say that the ps1 was the better system although i personally like the n64 more, just way too many great rpg's/platformers on the ps1. i LOVE the graphics on the n64(and ps1), alot of people don't like the transitional period from 2d to 3d but the games all had a certain style that will never be matched for me. the n64 had the best controller of all time as well atleast imo, the ps1 controller was great too but the early model was pretty much an exact copy of the snes controller.

I was a pure Nintendo fanboy growing up. When the PS1 came out it was sacrilege. I even went to the Sega camp and got a Saturn and revised my Atari roots and got a Jaguar. I also had a 64. Then I played my friends PS1.

Basically, during the days of the PS1 and 64 the 64 was second rate in comparison. Yes, it had its moments and I put as many hours into Killer Instinct and Golden Eye than I have on the Saturn and the 10 or so games I had on that combined.

PS1 had Resident Evil 1, 2 and 3. It had Jet Moto 1 and 2. Final Fantasy 7, 8 and 9. Gran Tourismo 1 and 2. Parasite Eve 1 and 2. Dragon Ball GT: Final Bout. Tekken 1 2 and 3. A better Megaman Legends. Street Figher Alpha series. Bishido Blade. Strider 2. A great Lunar Silver Star. Dino Crisis 1 and 2. I could go on.

No way did the 64 have the games to rival a fraction of PS1 titles. Hell of all the systems I kept during my college years when I sold my systems it is the PS 1. Besides the first party titles, the only other really stand out titles are a few wrestling titles. Still have my disc swap PsXchange for it so I can play imports.

Thank God the people with sense came to the rescue :). The n64 like many nintendo systems is a system of a few great games, but many crappy ones. The ps1 had a better library and more importantly a better library with many more good games.

God, I rember this now. I remeber growing up when the N64 and the PS1 were in a big console war. Still to this day I have agruments with my friends about which is better. I personally preffered the N64. Being that all my friends had one and I got it for christmas, and I have such fond memories of playing Super Mario 64 on christmas morning to christmas night.

The 64 may not have had as many as the PS1 but it has a great selection of and to me a better good to bad game ratio. The only for the 64 I really regret getting was Superman, (I actually don't know if thats the offical name because it just shows super mane). Don't get me wrong the PS1 had great like Final Fantasy 7, Heart of Darkness, and Lunar. I just will never get the sure enjoyment out of console that I did and still get with the 64. I still my 64 today and have almost every single ever made for it, (The I don't own are in my thread for wanting to buy n64 ).

So I am going to have to go with the 64 on this one.

I liked both consoles and was around at that time, i dont remember too much rivalry though. The ps1 is my preference, i had one growing up whereas i'd borrow the n64 from friends. For 1st & 3rd person shooters i think n64 blows ps1 away, but as for racing games, rpgs etc ps1 is just far superior.

I guess they provided different quality's. I think i noticed more tension between sega and sony to be honest, it was sadly short, swift and a year or 2 before n64 was even out.

Golden Eye and Perfect Dark are easily the best games for it. Next would be Nightmare Creatures and Killer Instinct. I think you might be under the impression that Nintendo nerds like myself actually liked Mario 64 and the Zelda games? No. When they came out they were garbage to me and a lot of my friends. One time play throughs that made the PS1 look that much better.

Yes, 3D was new and all, but put Super Mario World or Super Mario All-Stars next to Mario 64 and it was a step back not forward. Zelda was like watching a green stain run around on brown and grew splotches in 3D. No, the 64 wasn't rosey. The hardware was nice, but it just didn't have the quality titles in number. I can probably name 15 games for the N64 I'd buy today and 100 for the PS1. Hell 2 or 3 games on the N64 would be for collection's sake not because I'd play them or want to play them.

No dude your completely wrong because not only did Sony have the quantity they had the quality. The PS1 completely blew away the 64 no matter what any of you said. And don't think I'm biased because I'm sitting here right now writing while wearing my Mario and Yoshi shirt.

I' not saying the PS1 games are bad, I'm saying that their good, but the N64 has better games, like Mario 64, Zelda, Diddy Kong racing, and a whole bunch f others.

yeah, PS1 blew N64 out the water. nintendo with there library which consisted of ALOT child focused games unlike the PS and also the backward step of sticking with a cartridge only system when CD based systems had been in production since sega/mega cd, albeit cd consoles were in there infancy at the time but when the PS1 came out that set the benchmark of what a new generation (at the time) consoles were capable of and chose to stick with carts
