Today i finally bought a 32x on a Dutch Ebay site. It`s connected on a Megadrive model 2.

If I’m correct i need some RF-Shields to connect this thing on a model 1 Megadrive. The guy where i bought this from haven`t this shields anymore . He misses also that special video cable for the Megadrive 1.

Can i use the 32x without RF-shields on a model 1 Megadrive?..What can i do about the missing conversion cable? I really wanna play 32x ona model 1 Megadrive :(

Please help!

if youre referring to the metal prongs used for the system it all depends. Personally i found mine to work without them but some people say you need them for the model 1. The metal prongs prevent interference or something. The other cable your talking about if you mean the one that connects the genesis to the 32x itself is necessary. You wont be able to play without it. Btw i am referring to the north american units but im pretty sure PAL ones are somewhat the same.

Most of the time stuff like memory cards are region free, so you might have better luck finding a Japanese Mega CD Backup Ram Cart and it might be cheaper too. You might have to swap cases with a cart of your region just to make sure it fits in the cart slot.

I buy Japanese Memory cards for my Sega Saturn's because there region free and the Japanese ones cost less most of the time on eBay.

I can use my 32X on my model 1 just fine with out the metal brackets, but like XxKomebackKidxX said you will have to have the pass-through cable for the model 1 or it will not display video properly.

The pass-through cable can be rather expensive on eBay so if that 32X comes with the model 2 Mega Drive then I just suggest you play it that way. The 32X processes the sound on 32x games so having it on a model 1 or 2 shouldn't make any difference. You can play your normal Mega Drive carts on your Model 1 High Definition Graphics console like normal and enjoy the sound benefits.

Most peripherals seem to be fine but i dont think the backup ram would be, not without a bit of reshaping on the console itself anyway, seeing as how it goes in the cartridge lot. I did give it a quick thought myself, just havent seen one...ever!

Didnt know the saturn ones were though, they cost silly prices in the uk.

I don't know if everyone finally found an answer but I just wanted to inform you guys that the japanese RAM cart works for the US sega cd unit(s)
I don't know to a certainty if it works for the PAL mega cd but I'm pretty sure it does.

really that depends a lot on where you get it from and luck.

you can get a nice looking model 2 in the box on ebay for around $100, but you might find one in the wild at a yard sale for like $20.00

The main thing you want to do is get it from somewhere you can return it in case the CD player is broken. you will pay more for a CDX or JVC X-eye Unit. A model 1 unit is just a tad more expensive usually than a model 2 but there know to be less reliable.

Also make sure it comes with all the hook ups and the correct power adapter.

I'm going to have to bite the bullet and shell out for one of those memory cards...

though I am curious to know if the model 1, model 2, cdx, and x'eye all have the same amount of internal space.

Check out my ALBUM! (click the album cover below)
