Sega Does What Nintendon't

To Be This Good Takes AGES, To Be This Good Takes SEGA!![]() Mega Drive / Genesis General Info The Sega Mega Drive was released in Japan in 1988 and later released in North America in 1989, and in Europe in 1990. in North America the Mega Drive was renamed to Sega Genesis due to copyright laws. The Genesis was released in North America at about the same time as the TurboGrafx-16 and a little over 2 and a half years before the SNES. The Genesis had a slow start in North America and didn't do very well until Sega released Sonic the Hedgehog for the system. After Sega had there new mascot Sonic sells quickly started increasing for the System. The Mega Drive was Sega's most successful console they ever created selling over 29 million units worldwide. The Mega Drive did very well everywhere, but in Europe it was the number one selling console even outselling the SNES. Total sales worldwide SNES / Famicom = 49.10 million Mega Drive / Genesis = 29 million PC-Engine / TurboGrafx-16 = 10 million TradeMark Security System (TMSS) There are very few games that will not work on a model 2. These are the very first EA and Accolade unlicensed games. EA was the first game developers that could bypass the proprietary Sega code in the Genesis by reworking there game ROM headers to bypass the lockout. All EA games made between 1989 and 1990 used this method. Sega made what is called the TradeMark Security System (TMSS) and implemented it into the system on the later model 1 systems (ones that don't have the HD logo on the top) and the model 2 systems. The TMSS was a way to check the games ROM header to make sure it was made the correct way. If your game passed the TMSS check then your Genesis would display PRODUCED BY OR UNDER LICENSE FROM SEGA ENTERPRISES LTD on your tv screen and then begin to play your game. If not your game will not load. Sega was very clever in how they made the TMSS because if you were to program a unlicensed game to trick the TMSS into loading your game the words PRODUCED BY OR UNDER LICENSE FROM SEGA ENTERPRISES LTD would still be displayed on the screen and being a unlicensed game this would place you in copyright violation where Sega could sue you. Later after EA came to a agreement with Sega most of there early games were fixed and re-released to work with the TMSS system but games that didn't sell very well were never remade. Accolade got into the Gesesis market because the system was based off the same processor as the Commodore Amiga. (MC68000) After declining to sign with Sega to acquire there licensing Accolade started reverse-engineering Sega's hardware and some of the games on the system to find a work-around for the lock out. Later after the TMSS was put into place Accolade had 5 games that were about to launch so they went ahead and used a reverse-engineered TMSS code in the ROM headers and shipped the games out. Sega immediately sued Accolade because of copyright infringements. After a long and drawn out court battle it was decided that reverse-engineering was part of the fair use act. Accolade ended up getting about $20 million for lost sells due to there games being held back during the court proceedings. Accolade also had to accept a contract on Sega's terms if they wanted to continue making games for the system. These are games That don't work on a model 2 (there are more but I don't know what they are) Zany Golf (EA) Budokan (EA) Ishido: The Way of the Stones (Accolade) Model 1 Genesis / Mega Drive 100% backward compatible with the Sega Master System using the Sega Power Base Converter. Compatible with the Sega CD add-on unit. Outputs: extension port, RF output, 8-pin DIN connector, AC input, Sega CD expansion slot. Uses same AV cable as the Sega master System. 8-pin DIN AV cable is only able to output mono sound. model one has the front stereo headphone jack if you want full stereo. Uses a 1602 PSU, same one found on the Sega Master System and the Sega CD / Mega CD. Has a headphone jack on front of the system. Some model 1 Genesis have labeled across the top the words "High Definition Graphics" ("High Definition Graphics Stereo Sound" on the European Mega Drive model) these where the original models of the system and have better sound processing. The HDG model 1's also don't have the TMSS screen in the system BIOS (Produced by or under license from Sega enterprises ltd.) Some very early unlicensed Genesis / Mega Drive games (Accolade and Electronic Arts) will only work on these models because Sega added the TMSS screen to all later units made to stop the production of unlicensed games. ![]() HDG Model 1 Genesis video and Model 1 VS Model 2 sound comparison video made by MN12BIRD Model 2 Genesis / Mega Drive This is probably the most common Genesis / Mega Drive console design and the easiest to find. As you can see this version of the system is a lot smaller and has less outputs. Not 100% compatible with the Sega Master System using the Sega Power Base Converter. In Europe Sega released the Master System Converter II to fix the problems the system had with the original converter but unfortunately is was never released anywhere else. Compatible with the Sega CD add-on unit. Outputs: 9-pin DIN connector, AC input, and Sega CD expansion slot. 9-pin DIN AV cable can use Stereo unlike the model 1. The RF on the model 2 is also uses the 9-pin DIN output on the system. Uses a MK 1479 PSU, same one found on Sega Genesis 3, Sega Pico, Sega 32x, Sega Game Gear, and Sega Nomad. No headphone jack. ![]() Model 3 Genesis Released in North America only this is the most rare of the Genesis systems and is by far the most stripped down version. Thought of as the "budget" version of the Genesis because it had no compatibility with the Sega CD, Sega 32X, Power Base Converter, and Game Genie device. Also the systems memory controller was updated and this made some games not work on the system. Disney's Gargoyles is one of the games known not to work on the Genesis 3. Even though the system is a "budget" version of the Genesis is is still sought after by many collectors because the cartridge slot was the same shape as the Japanese Mega Drive. Many early Japanese Mega Drive games do not contain an internal region lockout and are able to be played on the Genesis 3 system with no modding required. ![]() System Controllers The Genesis had the classic 3 button controller and later a smaller more curved 6 button controller. ![]() Specs: (From wikipedia) Processor: Motorola 68000 16/32-bit processor running at 7.67 MHz Co-processor (Sound Controller): Zilog Z80 8-bit at 3.58 MHz Memory: 156KB total - 64 KB Main RAM, 64KB VRAM, 8KB Sound RAM. 20 Kb ROM Display Palette: 512 Onscreen colors: 64 Maximum onscreen sprites: 80 Resolution: 256 × 192, 256 × 224, 320 × 224, 320 × 448 Sound: Yamaha YM2612 5 channel FM and 1 channel FM/PCM, Texas Instruments SN76489 4 channel PSG (Programmable Sound Generator) Genesis Does What Nintendon't Sega had a very good marketing campaign for the Genesis in North America using Sonic as there Mascot and portraying the Genesis as the system to have and in general cooler than the other consoles. Sega would also use the term Blast Processing saying that the Genesis was much "faster" than the competition. Sega was also very good at coming up with catch phrases such as "Genesis does what Nintendon't", "To be this good takes AGES, To be this good takes SEGA", "Welcome To The Next Level", "What are you waiting for Nintendo to make one?" and the name "Sega!" being composed by a "choir". Cleaning your Carts Here is a picture of everything I use when cleaning my cartridge games. You can pick-up everything I have fairly cheap and this will bring any nasty game back to life. ![]() To clean cartridges I first use the games bits with a handle to open the game up. Then I use Brasso Brass Polish on the contacts with a old rag. After the contacts are all shining I use a Q-Tip with Windex to remove any of the Brasso that may be left still on there. I have got a hold of one or two carts that were so dirty I had to use a very lightly abrasive sponge to scrub the contacts with Brasso or a eraser then clean them with Windex. Now I clean the inside of the cart case with Windex making sure the part around the contacts get clean. Next put the cart back together and then clean the outside with Windex making sure not to spray directly on the label or rub very hard on it. I use a toothbrush to clean out any cracks or lines on the cart with Windex. If there are marker marks or names on the cartridge you can use the Magic Eraser on it to remove it very easy. Also if you have any stickers on the game case or on the game you can use Goo Gone and remove them with ease. DO NOT USE GOO GONE ON A CART LABEL! Finally to clean the console I use a GameStop EDGE card with a microfiber cloth. I use the microfiber cloth because no lint or cloth fibers are going to be left behind with it but you can use another kind of thin but sturdy cloth in its place. Welcome To The Next Level!![]() Mega-CD / Sega-CD General Info: The Sega-CD / Mega-CD was the first add-on released for the Genesis / Mega Drive. It was released in Japan on December 12, 1991, 1992 in North America and 1993 in Europe. The CD add-on allowed the system to play CD ROM games as well as audio CDs and CD+G discs. The CD add-on allowed for larger games as well as Redbook CD quality audio. Sega was heavily pushing "FMV" (Full motion video) games at the time to showcase the power of the add-on. The development of the Mega-CD was confidential so not many games truly show the power of the Sega CD, it was capable of doing scaling and rotating very similar to Mode7 on the SNES. While many people criticize the Sega CD and call it nothing but a FMV game system there were many great games released on the system. The Lunar series got its start on the system and became very popular. Many of the Working Designs titles on the Sega CD have a cult like following today and can fetch a hefty price on places like eBay. Another title on the Sega CD that is considered by most people to be the best game on the system is Snatcher designed by Hideo Kojima and the only English port of this great title. Sonic CD is considered by many as well to be the best Sonic game in the series due to being able to time travel and the huge level layouts on the game. Specs: (From wikipedia) CPU The main CPU is a 12.5-MHz 16-bit Motorola 68000 processor. The Mega Drive has the same processor, but at a lower clock rate of 7.67 MHz (NTSC) / 7.61 MHz (PAL). In the combined system, both processors run concurrently for Mega-CD games, and the Mega-CD processor is idle for Mega Drive games. Graphics * Graphics Processor: Custom ASIC * Number of simultaneous colors on screen: 64 out of 512 * Display resolution: 320 x 224 pixels and 256 x 224, video size from ¼ to full screen * Advanced[clarification needed] compression scheme * Scaling and rotation effects RAM * Program RAM: 4 Mbit (upgrade from the Mega Drive's 64kbyte) * Word Ram: 2 Mbit, this RAM is used as a bridge for the two processors * PCM samples: 512 kbit * CD-ROM data cache: 128 kbit * 64 kbit Internal Backup RAM (for storing saved games, scores, etc. for CD games) Storage * 500 MB CD-ROM discs (equivalent to 62 minutes of audio data) * CD-ROM drive transfer rate: 150 kB/s (1x) (Above specs prior to compression) BIOS * Size: 1 MBit * Used for games, CD player, CD+G and karaoke * Access time: 800 ms Model 1 Mega-CD / Sega-CD ![]() Model 2 Mega-CD / Sega-CD ![]() Sega CD / Mega CD Part 1 & 2 Video's made by strictlysega Sega Multi Mega / Sega CDX ![]() JVC X-Eye ![]() JVC X-Eye Video made by n8great321 CD Backup Ram Cart: ![]() This is the memory card you could buy to have extra storage for Sega CD games. This was a must buy because the Sega CD had very little space built in and some games like Shining Force CD could use all the internal ram just to be able to save one game. Internal Ram (System Memory): To access the internal ram of the system and the CD Backup Ram cart place your CD game into the system and when you see the sega CD logo onscreen press and hold button A, B, or C this should bring you the the advanced menu where you can access the "Memory" option. From here you should be able to copy stuff from the internal ram of the system to the cart or vise versa. Also you can delete saves to free up space. Edited by majinpowers, Apr 29 2010, 05:01 AM.

Just Stick It In Your Genesis!![]() Sega 32X General Info: The Sega 32X was released in North America in November of 1994, in December 1994 in Japan and on January 1995 in Europe. The 32X was released for the sole reason to try and get the jump on Nintendo's Super Famicom / Super Nintendo. The 32x is used as a add-on for the Sega Mega Drive / Sega Genesis and connects to the system via the cartridge input slot. The 32X as well as allowing you to play the new 32X games still lets you play your Mega Drive / Genesis titles without removing the add-on. Virtua Racing is the only game that will not work on the system with the 32X installed because of the Sega Virtua Processor (sort of like the Nintendo Super FX chip) in the game. Because of this a enhanced port of the game called Virtua Racing Deluxe was released for the 32X. The Power Base Converter that lets you play Sega Master System games also will not work with the 32X because the 32x on uses the pins it needs for games and the Power Base Converter uses all the pins. The 32X also had a small number of Sega Mega-CD 32X / Sega CD 32X games made for the system. For these games you would need a Mega Drive / Genesis, a Sega 32X, and a Mega-CD / Sega-CD. only 5 Mega-CD 32X / Sega CD 32X games were ever made for the system because of the high cost of having to own all the components. Specs: (From wikipedia) * Processor: Two SH2 32-bit RISC processors with a clock speed of 23.011 MHz, approx 20 MIPS each * Video RAM: Two linear framebuffers with support for RLE compression and an overdraw mode to simplify compositing objects with transparency. All scaling, rotation, and 3D operations are performed in software on the SH2 processors. * ROM (BIOS): 3 Kb * Color depth: 32,768 simultaneous colors on screen at standard Mega Drive/Genesis resolution. Video output can overlay Mega Drive/Genesis graphics or vice versa. Mega Drive/Genesis video effects such as shadow or highlight do not affect 32X video. * Memory: 256KB (2 MBit) program RAM and two 128KB (1 MBit) framebuffers. * Audio: Stereo 10-bit PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) mixing with Mega Drive/Genesis sound for a total of 12 audio channels of varying capability, 20 with the addition of a Mega-CD/Sega CD. * I/O: Same as Mega Drive/Genesis. * Storage: 32X cartridges are fundamentally the same as Mega Drive/Genesis cartridges with some small differences in the plastic casing. A few CD-ROM games were developed that also required a Mega-CD/Sega CD. * Compatibility: Compatible with Mega Drive/Genesis models 1 and 2, JVC Wondermega/X'Eye and the Multi-Mega/CDX. The 32X does not work with the Genesis 3 which lacks some of the necessary interface logic. * Size & weight (approximately): 107 × 205 × 110 mm; 495 g The 32X unit ![]() Sega 32X with model 1 Genesis and model 1 Sega CD ![]() Sega 32X with model 2 Genesis and model 2 Sega CD ![]() Sega 32X Video made by MN12BIRD Edited by majinpowers, Apr 29 2010, 05:03 AM.

Genesis Does What Nintendon't Must Have Mega Drive / Genesis Games In North America the first Mega Drive / Genesis games had a black theme and had a hard plastic clam shell. ![]() Later the games where changed from having a black theme to having a red theme. They where still in the hard plastic clam shell. Also a lot of the game manuals were produced in Black and White. ![]() most of the latter games made for the Mega Drive / Genesis kept the red theme but moved to cardboard boxes rather than the hard plastic clam shell cases. ![]() Here are some must have Picks for the Genesis excluding the Sonic games:. If you don't have all of the Sonic games you need to add them to the list as well because these are must have games and owning a Genesis without them is Blasphemy! ![]() This list is in no certain order I just added them as I thought of them. 1) Chiki Chiki Boys: Side-scrolling platform/beat 'em up game where you play as one of the 2 mega twins to take back your home land. You also can collect money and can by power-ups and continues. 2) Ghouls 'n Ghosts: Side-scrolling platform/action by Capcom where you play as Arthur, a knight that fights the army's of undead and demonic creatures to have a showdown with Lucifer to get your lover Princess Prin Prin back! 3) Strider: Another side-scrolling platform/action by Capcom. Its 2048 and your the ninja Strider Hiryu on a mission to save Earth from the rule of Grandmaster Meio and his space station "The Third Moon". 4) Gunstar Heroes: Treasure platform/action game that's a must have on the Genesis 5) Vectorman 1: and Vectorman 2: Run and Gun/Platform/Action games published by Sega. Must have games for the console! 6) Thunder Force II, Thunder Force III and Lightening Force (Thunder Force IV): One of the most iconic Shoot em' Up (SMHUP) series in the genre! A must have series for the Genesis / Mega Drive. 7) Forgotten Worlds: Side-scrolling shooting game where you play as armed flying soldiers and collect money to buy power-ups for armor and weapons. 8) Streets of Rage 1, Streets of Rage 2, and Streets of Rage 3: Side-scrolling beat 'em up by Sega. One of the very best series from the genre on any console! 9) Revenge of Shinobi, Shadow Dancer, Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master side-scrolling platform/action game where you play as a Shinobi. Shinobi III is regarded as the best game in the series. 10) Dynamite Headdy: Another Treasure platform/action game that's a must have on the Genesis. 11) Herzog Zwei: One of the first real-time strategy games and one of the best 2 player games for the Genesis. Price has gotten a little high for this title but its well worth it. 12) Toe Jam & Earl, Toe Jam & Earl 2: Panic on Funkotron: In the original game help ToeJam and Earl find parts of there spacecraft's wreckage in order to escape earth. In part 2 the duo make it back home only to find out that some earthlings stowed away in there repaired shape ship and are causing a "Panic on Funkotron"! 13) Alisia Dragoon: Side-scrolling action / adventure with a female protagonist that uses lighting magic. A highly underrated game for the Genesis and well worth getting a copy. 14) Ecco the Dolphin: Side-scrolling adventure game that's very popular for the system. In fact it is the only first party Sega game that outsold the Sonic games on the Genesis. 15) Castlevania Bloodlines:The only Castlevania game for the Genesis and with its huge multi section bosses and special effects it is one of if not the best Castlevaina games in the 16 bit era. 16) Comix Zone: A crazy action game that takes place in the panels of a comic book. 17) Mickey Mouse, World of Illusion: and Mickey Mouse Castle of Illusion: Walt Disney and Sega side-scrolling platformers. The Disney games on the Genesis/Mega Drive should not be overlooked because they truly are some of the best Platforming/Action games of the 16 bit era. 18) Golden Axe, Golden Axe 2, and Golden Axe 3 (Japan & Europe only): Side-scrolling arcade hack and slash game by Sega. 19) Rocket Knight Adventures: A platformer game made by Konami where the main protagonist is a opossum knight that fights machines and Pigs! 20) Ristar: A platformer game made by Team Sonic. Very underrated game and one of the best Genesis titles you can pick up. Almost as fun as Sonic 2! 21) Wonder Boy in Monster World: A must have and unfortunately a very underrated title on the Genesis for anyone that loves Platformer / Action / Adventure games. 22) Altered Beast: Classic Sega side scrolling beat 'em up arcade game. Also was the original pack-in game for the system in North America and Europe. 23) Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Hyperstone Heist: One of the best side-scrolling beat 'em up games of the 16 bit era and 2nd only to the SNES Turtles in Time version. 24) Mortal Kombat Series: With the Genesis version of Mortal Kombat not only did you get a great fighting game but you also got it with all the BLOOD! Sega having the balls to not sensor Mortal Komabt makes the Genesis the best console to play the series on! 25) Contra: Hard Corps: Konami's 4th game in the Contra Series that's know for its huge boss battles and crazy difficulty. 26) Quackshot: The 16 bit counterpart to The Lucky Dime Caper Staring Donal Duck on the Master System. Another Must have Disney Action / Platformer for the console! 27) Disney's Aladdin: Another Must have Disney game for the console. Almost every console has a version of Aladdin but each are totally different and in my opinion the Geneses / Mega drive version is the best. 28) Gaiares: Side-scrolling space shooter (SHMUP) that stands out in the crowd due to its unique weapons system. You use your capsule to shoot out at enemies to absorb there weapon. Keep hitting the same enemies with your capsule to power the weapon up. Must Have Mega Drive / Genesis RPG's 1) Phantasy Star Series: (PS2, PS3, PS4) One of if not the best RPG series on the Mega Drive / Genesis and shouldn't be missed. 2) Shining Force and Shining Force II: Turn-based strategy role-playing game made by Sega. 3) Shining in the Darkness: Dungeon-Crawler RPG and the start of the "Shining" series. 4) Sword of Vermillion: Classic J-RPG made by Sega. This RPG either causes you to Love or a Hate the game. Some people swear by this RPG while others say its one of the worst ever made. For the price you can pick it up at now I recommend trying it out yourself. 5) Landstalker: Zelda styled RPG and one of my favorites on the system. Dark Savior on the Saturn is considered to be the spiritual successor of the game. 6) Shadowrun: Action / RPG play as Joshua and quest to find the truth behind the death of his brother. The Genesis version of Shadowrun is totally different then the SNES version and is more of a sandbox type of game. 7) Beyond Oasis: Action / RPG in the same fashion as Zelda, with amazing graphics for the Genesis! 8) Crusader of Centy: Great graphics and a epic story easily make this one of the best Action / RPG games on the Genesis. (Another Zelda clone, and that's a good thing!) Edited by majinpowers, Nov 1 2010, 02:13 AM.

What Are You Waiting For, Nintendo To Make One? Must Have Sega CD Games Sega CD games come in the hard plastic long case in North America with the foam insert to keep the disk in place. The Japanese games use standard CD cases. Here is a few Pictures of some North American games. ![]() ![]() ![]() 1) Sonic CD: Rivals Sonic 2 in my opinion to be the best Sonic game ever made. This game alone is worth picking up the Sega CD unit. 2) Snatcher: Hideo Kojima's cyper-punk / cop RPG / Action adventure game for the Sega CD. One of the best games on the system and well worth getting if your willing to put down some cash. goes for around $150 - $225 US on eBay. 3) Final Fight CD: Best version of Final Fight 1, with 2 player mode intact and Guy as a playable character. 4) Lunar Silver Star: One of the best J-RPG games ever made. Ported to North America by Working Designs, and there love for the game truly shows. This is one RPG that shouldn't be missed because the story is one of the best period and is truly a timeless classic. 5) Lunar Eternal Blue: Part 2 to Lunar Silver Star (also shouldnt be missed) 6) Popful Mail: Magical Fantasy Adventure: Action / RPG game translated by Working Designs. This is one of my favorite Sega CD games and if you are a fan of action /adventure games or the Wonder boy series I highly recommend you give this game a try. 7) Vay: More RPG goodness brought to us from Working Designs. Working Designs really did port over some of the best RPG's of the time and once again I can't recommend this title enough. 8) Dark Wizard: Turn-based tactical battle RPG where you pick one of 4 characters to take back control of the land. High replay value. 9) FLINK / The Misadventures of Flink: underrated platformer that's well worth picking up. made by the same guys that brought us The Adventures of Lomax on the PS1. (you can get Flink on the Mega Drive but the Sega CD version has improved cut scenes and music.) 10) Robo Aleste: One of the best shoot em ups on the system made by the same guys that did M.U.S.H.A. (aka Musha Aleste) 11) Eternal Champions: Challenge from the Dark Side (Eternal Champions CD / EC2) VS. fighting game by Sega 12) Keio Flying Squadron: Very rare SHUMP (The rarest Sega CD game) that looks and plays in the same fashion as the Cotton series. Worth playing if your willing to pay to get it. 13) Shining Force CD: Shining Force Gaiden 1 and Shining Force Gaiden 2 remakes for the Sega CD with improved looks and sounds. 14) The Secret of Monkey Island: Classic game well worth playing through if you never have. Its a old school point and click adventure with a twist. 15) Lord of Thunder: Another great SHUMP on the Sega CD. 16) Mickey Mania: The Timeless Adventures of Mickey Mouse: Disney platformer. 17) Dungeon Explorer: 4 player gauntlet type Action / RPG game. 18) Android Assault: The Revenge of Bari-Arm: Another must have SHUMP for the system. 19) EARTHWORM JIM Special Edition: Its Earth Worm Jim in CD form. A vamped up version of Earthworm Jim having better graphics, more levels and better sound. 20) The Adventures of Willy Beamish: A classic Sierra game ported from the PC version. 32X Games 32X games come in cardboard boxes with a yellow theme ![]() ![]() 32X Cart Next To A Genesis Cart As you can see there is not a lot of difference between the two other than the 32X being a tad bit bigger. ![]() 32X Sega CD Games Sega 32x CD games come in a cardboard box that has the yellow theme as well. The CD's are loose in the box with Paper slips to protect the game. There were only 5 Sega 32x CD games made in total. 1) Supreme Warrior 2) Night Trap 3) Corpse Killer 4) Slam City with Scottie Pippen 5) Fahrenheit ![]() ![]() Must Have Sega 32X Games 1) Mortal Kombat 2: In My opinion this is the best port of MKII made. I think its even better than the Saturn version of the game. It looks just as good as the CD 32 bit versions but since its on a cartridge still it has no load time. 2) Knuckles Chaotix: Platformer game where you play as Knuckles and your on a mission to stop Dr. Robotnik from getting the Chaos Rings, ancient Rings infused with Chaos Emerald energy and free your friends "the Chaotix". The Chaotix is made up of Knuckles the Echidna, Mighty the Armadillo, Vector the Crocodile, Charmy Bee, and Espio the Chameleon. 3) Blackthorne: Platformer / Adventure game with superior graphics to the SNES version and 3 more levels. 4) Kolibri: Crazy SHMUP where you play as a hummingbird. The graphics and the sound in this title are unbelievable and I highly recommend it. 5) Space Harrier: 32x almost arcade perfect port of Sega's classic 3D SHMUP. 6) Afterburner: If you like Afterburner this is by far the best port of this game. 7) Tempo: Very underrated 2D platformer. The animations on this game are very well done and the music is very pleasing. Game has a total of 7 levels. 8) Star Wars Arcade: Considered by many to be the best 32X game for the system. If you like the coin-op Star Wars this is a must have. 9) Supreme Warrior: 32X CD game: The 32x CD version has better looking FMV footage due to being able to use more colors onscreen. Supreme Warrior is a FMV game with interactive fighting. This is one of if not my favorite FMV game. It was filmed in Hong Kong at the Shaw Brothers studio and reused a few of the old sets. Protect your half of a magical mask from Fang Tu's minions, and eventually Fang Tu himself! (This is a great FMV game and if you dont have a 32x and a Sega CD you can also get a Sega CD version) FMV is not for everyone and even myself I don't like most of these games but for some reason I liked Supreme Warrior but I should add I am a huge Shaw Brothers fan. Glad you guys like the topic I just got through adding some more information and editing it all. I am going to try and slowly add a informative topic like this for all the Sega retro consoles. Feel free to post in here your own Must Have Games that's not on the list. Also add a small description of the game and / or why you feel its a must have so people can get a feel of what the game has to offer. Edited by majinpowers, May 15 2010, 12:24 AM.

Great guide. I bought a Genesis (model 1) last year, and I just haven't known what to get for it. I've got Sonic 1 and 2, and Spinball, Earthworm Jim, Rolling Thunder 3, and some random sports titles I've picked up from thrift stores and pawn shops, but it's not exactly a huge collection, and I've barely touched it since I got it. Thanks! I'll look for some of the titles you mentioned. |

I also think it's interesting that a few 32X games were down-ported (devamped?), perhaps due to the system's relative unpopularity. Unfortunately, rather than being the good games that most people would want (like Knuckle's Chaotix), they were mostly sports games (one that I have is Virtua Racing, which ends up being a massively tall Genesis cart, but still plays in 3D, which is neat, I guess). |

Lmao! I just realized where you got the pictures of the Genesis 3; I started visiting www.jwnyc.com around the time I started watching Pete's videos, haha. Thought those pictures looked familiar. Anyways, bout to give Ghouls 'N Ghosts a try; picked it up for $0.25, without the manual. |

Yes unfortunately I don't own a Genesis III myself so I had to borrow some pics for that system. all the pics with the green background I took myself from my collection. The Genesis Ghouls 'N Ghosts is a great game. Its crazy hard but very fun. Its my favorite in the series but I haven't got to ever play the Super Grafix version. |

Yeah, I just thought it was funny that I, in my infinite boredom, recognized where you got it from ![]() And Ghouls 'N Ghosts is a crazy hard game. Doesn't help that I'm still not completely used to the Genesis' controller; it's still really alien to me, haha. I'm hoping that'll change over the next few days as I play it more and more. |

Just got in my Monster World IV Game reproduction and its great! ![]() ![]() For anyone that don't know a Game Reproduction is a game that has been flashed with a ROM image so it can be played on a console. In my case Monster World IV never came out in North America or Europe and later was fan translated to be played on emulators. Then to make the reproduction the translated ROM image is flashed onto a compatible Genesis cart and it turns whatever game you flashed into the translated ROM. Next a label is made and it replaces the original label of the game you just flashed. The only place I have found to do Genesis games is Game Reproductions.......... http://gamereproductions.com/ I just e-mailed him and asked if he could make me a custom Monster World IV cart and he did, since its not one of the ones he offers on his web page I had to custom make my label. I highly recommend this place if you want to get a hard copy of some of the translated, or weird games that were never released here in North America. Edited by majinpowers, Nov 23 2009, 01:37 AM.

Here is another Game reproduction I stumbled across last week and I snagged it up as soon as I saw it. It is a conversion of the Pal version of Mega Man the Wiley Wars but its programmed to run on NTSC North American Genesis at full speed! The save feature and everything is 100% working just like it would be if you were able to play the pal version. plus the game case and sticker is unbelievable! If someone didn't know this game was never released in North America it would pass for the real thing.
